Leap and the Net Will Appear

January 23rd, 2009

I'm loving re-reading Gail McMeekin's The 12 Secrets of Highly Creative Women. This week's chapter is all about taking risks. It made me think of the quote from Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way,

Leap and the net will appear.

I've been thinking about doing this for awhile now and decided that with my year of leaping, now is the time! So....

I will be leading an online Artist's Way group this year, complete with a weekly teleclass and private blog. It would run for 12 weeks and I'd keep the groups fairly small, so that everyone would get plenty of personal attention. It will cost $300 for the 12 week session.

Artistsway The Artist's Way is a powerful, transformational book and it truly changed my life. I admit that it is intense, it can take you to dark places and push you to your limits, but it's definitely worth it.

Having a group to help you through it is so helpful. Years ago, when I was getting back in touch with my creative side, I found an ad for a Artist's Way group that was led by a local yoga teacher. We met every week in her living room and discussed one of the chapters, the exercises, and our experiences with them. And in that small group of 5 women, I made huge shifts in the way I approached my creativity.

I've gone through the book many times now and a few years ago I led a large group of about 100 bloggers through the book. I loved the online group and met so many wonderful people, but there were times when I wished the group was smaller because it was tough to keep up with everyone. I've been interested in leading a group through the book for awhile and I think the online and teleclass forum provides a wonderful opportunity for us to connect and share this work even if we can't meet in person.

I'm thinking about starting up a group in late February or early March. If you're interested in joining me in a safe, supportive, ultra-creativity-boosting adventure, leave a comment or pop me an email and let me know, so I can keep you up to date!

I remember the first time you did this (and if i recall correctly, you were just a wee bit nervous about doing it back then, weren’t you?). You’ve come a long way, baybeee; I frikkin LOVE that you’re going to do it again, and getting that monetary/energetic exchange thing going too. You ARE a facilitator; glad you’re taking the stand for that! (whoo hoo, you!)

Brava!

Hugs,

Deb

That’s funny how The Artist’s Way is everywhere since a couple of months ;)

Infortunately, I cannot afford your class but I belong to one or two groups already.

I’m sure you’ll do a great leader for those 12 weeks !

I wish you a very successful group.

What a perfect idea, Leah, and the fee will provide limits on the size as well as well-deserved income for you. A fantastic leap! In admiration, O

Leah, you are omniscient. I truly believe that. I am amazed by you. Simply, amazed. :)

I have an artist’s way workbook and you’ve inspired me to use it. I can’t afford the class at this time, maybe next time if you choose to do it again. But also, thanks for inspiring me to pick up my pen again, it’s been well over a year since I’ve ventured anywhere in my artistic direction, and I did a whole drawing last night and am quite happy with it. Best of luck with the class and I look forward to being inspired here, now that I found your blog. Happy creating!

please keep me updated!!

i am a huge fan of the AW!!! it indeed changed my life! almost five years after beginning morning pages, i still do them almost everyday. they are such a catharsis and really help me know where my heart is being led (or stalled) at any given time. i know that those who form your group will be blessed by both your presence and julia’s amazing words. bon chance!

p.s. “the key to winter” arrived yesterday. it is fabulous!!!!

I echo the words of others and unfortunately with the exchange rate between dollar and pound at the moment it isn’t possible – but I would love to keep in touch re how it goes and maybe doing it in the future! I have the book and have used it on my own and found it quite inspiring – your blog is truly supportive thank you

How funny to swing by here today and read that you are starting up this book. I just read the first few sections as I prepare to work through this book with a group online. I smiled when I saw your quote as it caught my eye when I read it in the book. A co-worker a couple of months ago had shared that quote. Enjoy your next journey with the book. I found working with the morning pages to be very powerful and cathartic.

Leap and the net will appear–or you’ll fly!

Hope it works out for you. I love Artist’s way, too!

I’m definitely interested – I’ve been looking for a group to go through The Artist’s Way with. I’ll watch for more information. And congrats on taking such an exciting and promising risk! :)

I envy you for having had that group to actually meat up with and talk with, but I think an online group would be fun. Please let me know more about it when you’re ready. I’m interested.

How wonderful! I picked up my copy of The Artists Way about a month ago & started ‘really’ reading if for the first time.
there are no groups that I know of here & I’m afraid I’m with Rosie, the exchange rate being between the USD & the NZD somewhat abysmal right now, I just can’t afford it as much as I’d love to.

Way to go Leah!

Leah,
How exciting! I have no doubt that you will be able to inspire others & help them find their way.

PS-Kathryn got the the “Key to Winter”
I am blue green with envy. I have told my dh the print is all that I wish for my bday.

I can’t see-it was Lucy not Kathryn:)

This book literally confronted me from a used bookstore shelf RIGHT after (the DAY AFTER) I decided to break twenty years of artistic silence and un-do my blockage. I did not know what the book was when I picked it up. As I looked at what it was for all the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end, and I began to weep. I could not believe the timing. Julia Cameraon refers to this kind of serendipity. It happens often.

So I am always in this book somewhere now, reading and rereading it from time to time. I initially did the book over three months or so, as it directs, and did remove my blockage. I’ve been painting ever since.

I highly recommend it, and a group would be a great way for someone to approach this material. It’s powerful stuff – because it’s YOU. All of you.

I’d LOVE to be in this group. Please let me know if there are any spaces available!! I have gone through the bok by my self quite a few times, but never made it through. I think I need a group to help me. Thanks for thinking about starting this!! All the Best. Lynn
